Wednesday 5 February
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Talofa, Happy New Year and welcome back to school! I hope
your family have had an awesome holiday filled with fun and memorable times. My
name is Frank Tasi and I am new this year to Rowandale School. My mum is Samoan/Rotuman
(Rotuma is a little island not too far from Fiji) and my dad is from Samoa. I
really love learning, sports and music. I am really looking forward to working
with your child and making this year fun and filled with learning to help your
children “Soar to Success”.
There are a few important notices to remember for this term.
We have swimming every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, so please remind your children
that they will need to bring their togs and towels for these days. If your
child is not able to swim on these days, please send a note to school with your
child.
We will also be having a Meet the Teacher BBQ on Wednesday
19 February starting at 5:30pm. This will be a great time to come to school and
to meet me and the other teachers at the school.
Please read with your child everyday and ask them questions
about what they have read. You will encourage
their passion for reading by doing this. You can also encourage your child to
practice their writing by giving them a journal or diary to write about their
day and remind them to use their full stops.
It is important that all your child’s clothing is named so
we can return it to them. Because it’s pretty hot, please help your child to
keep cool by making sure they don’t wear extra t-shirts underneath their
uniforms. Because it is term one, all children need a hat at school. Please
encourage and remind your child to bring hats.
One of our key topics that we will be looking into this year
is Treasure/Taonga. We will be
talking and exploring about what we think treasure is – from gold, silver and
diamonds, to the traditions and cultures your family share. Talk to your child
about what you and your family think treasure is and begin the creating of new
ideas with your child.
I look forward to the year ahead and getting to know your
child. I am more than happy to talk to you about your child’s progress or
answer any questions you may have. Just come and see me before or after school
or make an appointment at the office.
Ia manuia lava le tausaga fou
Kind regards
Frank Tasi - Class teacher
